Mast Trail is a beloved hiking trail in Toronto, often visited as a fun weekend getaway.
But with over 10,000 years of history in Rouge Park, there's a little more to these trails than one might think.
After suffering a devastating defeat at the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon switched tactics to strike England where it hurt — their timber supply.
Unfortunately, finding white pines in Rouge Park is a rarity due to of the overforesting during this time, with red pines now dominating the landscape.
Thankfully, Parks Canada has made a concerted effort to protect the White Pines that grow in the park.
