Right before the Real ID law became official, US Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem claimed that those attempting to fly without the updated license would still be able to board planes.
Carrying a valid passport or a current Real ID driver’s license will ensure your travel experience is as streamlined as possible.
But despite previous delays and current exceptions, a Real ID is the officially required license for boarding planes.

A Real ID is also necessary to visit nuclear power plants in the US.
