Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton sustained a torn right Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against Oklahoma City, the team confirmed on Monday.
Haliburton, who played through a calf strain in the NBA Finals for the opportunity to win a championship, was scheduled to undergo surgery later Monday in New York.
He immediately began slapping the court in frustration and remained on the floor as most of the Pacers team surrounded him.
Haliburton, 25, had been the breakout star of the postseason, leading Indiana on its improbable run to the Finals.
"He authored one of the great individual playoff runs in the history of the NBA with dramatic play after dramatic play," Carlisle said.
