Though their roots trace back to Europe, hunting clubs were common in what is now Toronto during the city's formative decades.
Although various clubs and meetups existed around Toronto, one popular hunting club at the time, the Toronto Hunt Club, made a splash when it was established in 1843 at Fort York.
Under the Toronto Hunt Club, another hunting facility had started to form near Eglinton and Avenue Road.
By the late 1920s, it was known independently as the Eglinton Hunt Club before being renamed the Eglinton and Caledon Hunt Club by the 1960s.
Clubs like the Toronto Hunt Club and the Eglinton and Caledon Hunt Club often hunted around Toronto on horseback.
