Contacted for comment, a Pentagon spokesperson referred Guardian Australia to a post on X from Colby on Sunday (AEST) which referenced the FT article.
In his post, Colby wrote that the US policy position included “urging allies to step up their defense spending and other efforts related to our collective defense”.
