On July 2, NASA revealed the existence of 3I/ATLAS, only the third ever interstellar object observed in the universe. The two other interstellar objects discovered to date are the comets 1I/ʻOumuamua and 2I/Borisov. 3I/ATLAS was discovered on July 1, when its existence was reported by a telescope at Rio Hurtado in Chile, operated by the Asteroid Terrestrial Impact Alert System.
