Anyone trying to kick off their August long weekend in Toronto with a fiery thrill may want to head over to Ward's Island on Friday, August 1, for one of Toronto's most sizzling summer traditions: the Ward's Island Fire Parade. This annual spectacle sees the masses gather for a pyro-parade just a short ferry ride from the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto. Now in its 38th year, the Fire Parade features glowing costumes, massive lanterns, and shadow puppets, among other after-dark entertainment for all. Organized entirely by local artists and residents, the Fire Parade encourages spectators to bring lanterns or dress in light-up outfits to become part of the luminous procession. First-timers and returning fans will all enjoy this enchanting community-run event, a rare chance to experience a quieter, more whimsical side of Toronto.
