-- Indianapolis Colts veteran running back Salvon Ahmed, taken down by a defender with an illegal hip-drop tackle, suffered a severe lower right leg injury in Sunday's training camp practice and was immediately taken to a hospital for X-rays.
The play happened during what the Colts describe as a developmental period, when drills usually include third-string players.
During the period when Ahmed was injured, the Colts were going "live," meaning tackling was allowed.
The Colts have conducted precious few live portions of practice in Steichen's first two camps in Indianapolis.
Ahmed has played four seasons in the NFL, all with the Miami Dolphins, and joined the Colts as a free agent earlier this year.
