A Jetsons-style Rosey household assistant robot may finally be a reality—only it probably doesn’t look quite like you would expect.
Household robots, by contrast, are still in their early stages.
The researchers chose to 3D print the robot’s arms, in part to reduce the amount of metal used.
In their testing, the researchers say the robot successfully identified and picked up a variety of household objects, including a bowl, a handbag, a book, and a stuffed teddy bear.
A Jetsons “Rosey the Robot” maquette auctioned by Heritage Auction Galleries is displayed in Beverly Hills on July 16, 2010.
