On the heels of the shocking announcement that Toronto's Taste of the Danforth is being scrapped yet again this year, another street fest has also announced that it will not take place in the coming weeks, after all.
Organizers of Toronto's Tamil Fest 2025 took to their website this week and updated it with a message that has surprised many: "Tamil Fest is paused for 2025."
Apparently, up to 250,000 people were expected to patronize it this year — that is, until the abrupt cancellation.
There is also the recent uptick in event cancellations post-COVID in Toronto and across Canada.
Although it's tough to comment on why Tamil Fest 2025 was cancelled — blogTO has reached out to organizers but has yet to hear a response at the time of publication — similar situations have been because of funding constraints, waning attendance and struggles getting things back on track post-pandemic.
