In the U.S. the colorectal cancer drug Cetuximab began causing severe allergic reactions in nearly one in four patients in Tennessee and North Carolina—a hotspot for the lone star tick.
Most people may not know, but mice are also considered red meat.
About 25 years ago, incidents of this red meat allergy were pretty rare.
In the U.S., the lone star tick population, which mainly inhabits the eastern part of the country, is exploding as the climate continues warming.
There is no treatment or cure, other than avoiding red meat entirely.
