The top baby names picked by Canadian parents for the year have been released, and the latest Statistics Canada figures released on Sept. 24 show two familiar names maintaining their grip on the top spots for 2024. Statistics Canada releases an annual list of the top baby names in the country, compiled each September using data from the Canadian Vital Statistics – Birth Database covering the previous calendar year. For the 2024 list, Canadian parents leaned on some familiar favourites — so much so that both of the top baby names are unchanged from 2023, with one of the two names now having held the top position for nine consecutive years. In fourth place, there were 1,123 babies given the name Amelia in 2024, and, rounding out the top five, 1,086 babies named Sophie.
