Archeologists recently discovered over 40,000 Roman-era coins during a dig in a French village. The treasure trove of ancient coins were found in three ceramic storage vessels that had been buried between 1,700 and 1,800 years ago. The second jug and its contents weighed in at about 110 pounds (potentially 18,000 to 19,000 coins) and the third jug contained only three coins. One of the coin deposits currently being excavated. Despite both fires, the older age of the coins INRAP offers evidence that a clustered settlement already existed before the Roman conquest of the area.
