Roomba’s Parent Company May Get a Second Life, But We Can’t Recommend Buying Its Robot Vacuums Right Now

The Swedish company Electrolux beat Roomba by one year when it brought the amusingly named Trilobite to market in 2001. Picea is a Chinese company that refers collectively to two entities: Shenzhen Picea Robotics Co., Ltd, and Santrum Hong Kong Co., Limited. By its own statements, Picea has manufactured more than 20 million robot vacuums, despite being a relatively young company founded in 2016. Hold Off on Buying One for NowSo why, then, do we advise you to hold off buying a Roomba if iRobot’s statement says that Roomba’s operations will continue seamlessly for now? Given Roomba’s brand recognition, I’d be awfully surprised if Picea doesn’t keep pumping out new Roomba robo-vacs onto the market once it’s fully acquired iRobot.
