Pirelli is the sole tire supplier for Formula 1, and has been since 2011. Computer simulations have been invaluable for Pirelli in developing tire compounds for the new 2026 Formula 1 regulations. Pirelli uses specialist equipment to measure the abrasiveness and grip of every race track on the Formula 1 calendar. That might sound relatively straightforward, but Pirelli makes six different tire compounds, with the option to choose three of them for any given F1 weekend. Not only are the teams supplying Pirelli with data, the tire giant also gathers its own data.
