What was supposed to be at least a weeks-long closure of a popular trail along Toronto's Etobicoke Creek will now drag on throughout the winter due to yet another Metrolinx project dragging its heels. However, in a statement that proved prescient, Metrolinx noted that "The closure may extend longer [...] depending on progress." And that progress has clearly not been as fast as the best-case scenario, as Metrolinx has since updated the project timeline, with the closure now expected to last until February 7, 2026. As per Metrolinx, "The closure is required to accommodate increased crew size, additional equipment and multiple work areas." In a previous update, the transit agency explained the lengthy closure would allow work space for the "critical" long-term rehabilitation of the Etobicoke Creek Railway Bridge serving the busy GO Lakeshore West Line.
