Unlike past standards, WiFi 8 doesn’t increase maximum data transfer speed at all over WiFi 7. WiFi 8 is unique in that it doesn’t increase its maximum data transfer rate beyond WiFi 7’s 46 Gbps at all. Like any new WiFi standard, you don’t need to immediately run out and buy a device that supports one. Older WiFi standards don’t lose functionality for a long time, and in my experience testing WiFi routers, these devices tend to have long lifespans. Those of you who are using routers that support only WiFi 5 or an older WiFi standard should consider upgrading to a new WiFi router.
