Earthquakes Canada recorded the magnitude 3.7 quake just before 11 p.m., which was centred roughly 23 kilometres southeast of Orillia and 99 kilometres northeast of Toronto. By comparison, over the same time period, the smaller region of Western Quebec experienced 15 magnitude 2.5 or greater earthquakes per year," Earthquakes Canada notes. Although rare, there are a few notable earthquakes that have rattled southern Ontario over the past century, many of which actually originated outside of the province and were simply felt here. Here's a look at some of the most significant earthquakes that have shaken Ontario over the past 100 years. The earthquake's main epicentre was located in Lake Kipawa in southwestern Quebec, roughly 70 kilometres northeast of North Bay, Ontario, where its effects were felt.
