An Ontario township is moving to rename Prince Andrew Island following the arrest of the scandal-plagued former British royal and his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The small island, located in Lakefield within Selwyn Township near Peterborough, got its name in 1978 after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew) spent a semester at the private school Lakefield College School. Senis also said she has received multiple inquiries from international media outlets about the controversial island names and is working to "deal with it in a timely manner." His longstanding friendship with the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein began in 1999 and included visits to his home and private island via private jet. The situation in Selwyn has added momentum to broader discussions in Ontario about names linked to controversial historical figures.
